#1. You haven’t left the car park yet
Your driving instructor will know a thing or two about driving, and if they haven’t let you out of an empty car park yet, there’s probably still a little bit of work to be done. Don’t beat yourself up about it – we all had to start somewhere!
#2. Your dad refuses to sit in the car with you
Driving lessons with your parents can be stressful, but if your dad is point blank refusing to sit in the passenger seat with you, it might be more than just ‘my child is driving’ jitters.
#3. You still wipe your windscreen instead of indicating
We get it – working out what all the funny nobs and buttons do can be a bit of a struggle, but if you’re still giving your windscreen a good wipe instead of indicating, it’s not time to book your driving test just yet.
#4. You think ‘independent driving’ is listening to your Destiny’s Child CD
As much as we’d love to say that this is part of the driving test, independent driving has absolutely nothing to do with Beyonce.
#5. You still feel like crying every time you see another car
Don’t worry, other cars are supposed to be on the road at the same time as you. If you still can’t cope with this fact, now’s not the time to be taking a driving test.
#6. You do a good kangaroo impression in the car
If you’re still struggling to find the right balance between stalling and pulling away smoothly, you’re probably still in the ‘kangaroo’ stage. This is not a great stage, but don’t worry, it doesn’t last long.
#7. Your turn in the road is more like a 12 point turn
Manoeuvres can be the trickiest bit of learning to drive, but once you’ve got the hang of them you’ll wonder what all the fuss was about.
#8. You still find yourself saying ‘oh I didn’t know I was braking’
You weren’t, that’s called dual controls.
#9. Roundabouts are the most confusing things you’ve ever seen
If you can’t handle anything with more than one lane, you’re not quite done with your driving lessons yet.
#10. You think the MSPSL routine is a bit like YOLO
It’s not, and it involves a lot more mirrors and concentration.
Make sure you’re giving yourself the very best chance of passing your driving test by downloading the Midrive app.
